Busan Delights: A Tasting Journey Through 8 Local Eateries

Haeundae Giwajib Daegutang

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$

Busan is a coastal city, and of course, seafood cannot be missed among Busan's delicacies. Haeundae Giwajib Daegutang is located near Haeundae, with no other menu items available except for cod soup, charged per head. The meal is simply cod soup, rice, and side dishes. The cost per person is 11,000 Korean Won. I went there around 2 or 3 in the afternoon, but the place was still so packed that every seat was taken. The cod soup is very fresh, capturing the taste of the sea.

Hongso Jokbal

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$

Hongso Jokbal is a popular restaurant located on the famous Pig's Feet Street in Nampo, Busan. I ordered a small portion of the authentic original flavor pig's feet for 30,000 Korean won. Although it was a small portion, it could easily serve two to three people because it was quite a lot; I had to take the leftovers and ended up eating them for two more meals. There weren't many side dishes, but all were delicious. The greens are used to wrap the pig's feet, eaten with garlic or chili. The original flavor pig's feet, eaten with the sauce on the side, tasted very refreshing without feeling greasy at all.

Nampo Samgyetang

  • Price: $$

A 50-year-old specialty store selling ginseng chicken soup, I ordered the cheapest set meal for 14,000 Korean won. The side dishes were also very rich, among which the chicken gizzards were extremely delicious. The ginseng chicken soup was still bubbling hot when it was served, and I really liked the taste of the soup.

Once opened, the sticky rice spills out, turning into a chicken porridge that is very filling.

Oh Banjang

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$$$

This famous Korean barbecue restaurant is located near the hotel where I stayed. It is said that many people specifically drive here to eat. Our group ordered every type of meat available, and indeed, it was fantastic Korean barbecue.

Haeundae Wonjo Halmae Gukbap

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $

In the same area near Haeundae, there is a very famous beef soup rice. After entering, there is no need for much talk. The staff may not be fluent in English, so simply point at the soup rice. The broth is fantastic. The price is very affordable, only 6,000 won.

Ssangdung-e Dwaeji-gukbap Headstore

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$

Koreans love their soup and rice, and Busan's pork soup rice is said to be a local specialty, so of course, I had to give it a try. Surprisingly, the soup was quite refreshing. Towards the end, if you feel the taste is a bit monotonous, you can freely add sauces to it, which makes a big difference.

60 Chicken

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $

People say that it’s a must to eat Korean fried chicken when you’re in Korea, so on the last night, after having tried almost everything else worth trying, I decided to go for chain-store fried chicken. The menu offered a wide variety of sauces. However, since I'm not a fan of sauces, I ordered the original flavor for takeout.

Goraesa Eomuk Fishcake Shop

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $

This is a famous shop in Haeundae Beach, and just looking at its huge fish cake sign is probably enough to draw anyone's attention. The store has a vast variety of fish cakes; from the outside, you might call it a fish cake supermarket. You go in, pick whatever you like, and then bring it to the counter to pay. There is a microwave available for immediate heating. If you're here for sightseeing, I highly recommend buying some as snacks. Since I live nearby, I've eaten here several times, and each time I ended up devouring everything I bought as soon as I got home.

Trinity

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$$$

This restaurant is a steakhouse located above the Shinsegae Department Store, and it is quite upscale in terms of pricing. Surprisingly, even the steaks are Korean-style. Although the portions are small, the taste is pretty good.
