Sanya Day Trip

Taking advantage of a business trip to Sanya on Hainan Island, I arrived on the plane at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, and put my luggage away just in time to have a day to wander around. Sanya is a place where Chinese people love to spend their vacations, and it is advertised as the "Hawaii of the East". I didn't have a lot of time, so I just picked two scenic spots for a day trip to Sanya: Tian Tian Hai Jiao (天天海角) and Deer's Head (鹿回頭).

Sanya's most famous scenic spot, "The Ends of the Earth", is located at the southwest tip of Hainan Island, which is considered a real end of the earth for China because of its border location. In fact, the reason why it is called "Tianya Haijiao" is because there is the Tianya Stone, which was inscribed by Cheng Zhe during the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty, as well as the Haijiao Stone, which was inscribed on the neighboring boulder by Wang Yi during the Republic of China, and so it was later called "Tianya Haijiao Scenic Area". To enter the scenic area, you need to buy a ticket, which costs 95 RMB per person, which is actually a bit expensive.

The End of the World Plaza

After entering the main gate of the scenic area, facing the blue sea is the Tianya Haijiao Square. After all, it is the most famous tourist attraction in Sanya, so it is neatly cleaned up.

Historic Statue Area

On the left side of the square there is a statue area of historical celebrities, all of whom have a connection with Hainan. For example, Huang Daobao, a native of the Yuan Dynasty, is said to have learned textile techniques in Hainan and later returned to his hometown to develop them, and is considered a pioneer of the textile industry in China.

Probably because of its romantic name and beautiful sea view, many people come to Tianya Haijiao to take wedding photos. The area next to the celebrity statue area is directly planned to be used for wedding and wedding photos.

Seaside Trail

Along the beach trail, all the way to see the sea view. Sanya is located in Hainan, the beaches here are the rare blue sky, blue water, coconut groves and sandy beaches in China, so Sanya always attracts a lot of tourists from mainland China, and is known as the Hawaii of the East. In the scenic area, there are a lot of special shaped rocks, each with a romantic name.

One of the scenic spots, the Sun and Moon Stones are shaped like love hearts. Legend has it that the Li youths and Han women became Yuanyang after they were martyred in love, and then Guanyin turned them into these two stones, which is known as the Love Stones. Close to look closely, the stone is also engraved with the characters of the sun and the moon.

Love Vow Stone Carving

There are also a number of man-made attractions that were added later. The vows written on the stone carving of the Love Vow are the declaration of love made by the Chinese gymnastics champion who got married here in 2008.

Magnolia in budThis stone was originally just a piece of granite, but after weathering, it split into several petals, looking like a magnolia flower.

Sea Judgment Nantenashi (geology)

The four characters "海判南天" were engraved during the Kangxi period, with the original meaning of delineating the boundaries of the southern sky according to the Confucian scripture "Shangshu", with Chih Hsien in the south and Shenzhou in the north, which is the boundary between heaven and earth on the map of China.

The stone is about seven meters high and was inscribed by Fan Yunti, a magistrate during the reign of Emperor Xuantong, who was said to have been impressed by the grandeur of the stone and its sense of uprightness and integrity.

A Tree at the End of the World

The tree opposite the Southern Heavenly Pillar grows out from under a huge boulder, and is said to be "a tree at the end of the world" that does not bow to fate.

The sky is the limit

As you walk up the hill, you will reach a sea-viewing platform, which is a good place to stand at the highest point to see the sea view, and the platform is also named poetically as "The End of the Sky".

When you reach the end of the trail, congratulations, you have finally reached the end of the world. It is only here that you can really see the "End of the World" stone and the "Cape of the Sea" stone. The two stones are next to each other, which is the symbol of this scenic spot. This is the end of the road, and the tour is almost over. If you don't want to continue walking, you can take the battery car back to the entrance.

Museum of Sacred Orders

On the way back, I stopped by the Sacred Decrees Museum along the trail in the scenic area, where there are many interesting relics of sacred decrees.

In the afternoon, I came to Deer Head Scenic Area. You can take a bus, but I was in a bit of a hurry to get to work this evening, so I took a taxi. Luhuitou is on the hill, you can see the panoramic view of Sanya, the driver introduced that it is suitable for night view, I came in the daytime, the advantage is that there are fewer tourists, tickets are also cheaper.

Transportation

There is another section of the mountain road before the main gate of the scenic area to get up to Deer Hau Tau Park. You can either walk or pay for a bus to take you to the park, the bus stop is just opposite the sculpture, but after you get off the bus, you still have to walk up the hill by yourself to see the sculpture and the sea view.

When you get off the bus, you can turn around and see the city of Sanya. At night, the lights are even more beautiful.

Luk Wui Tau Park

After getting off the bus, you can only walk slowly up the hill. Deer Houtou Park is themed on the love story of the Li ethnic group, and from the main entrance, it is written "Love at first sight, Deer Houtou".

The Luhuitou Peak Park is surrounded by the sea on three sides, so you can see the panoramic view of Sanya and also Fenghuang Island.

The deer statue is the highlight of the scenic area and has a romantic story. According to legend, an ancient Li youth chased a deer across 99 mountains and 99 rivers to the coast of the South China Sea. When the deer turned back, it suddenly saw a flash of fire and turned into a beautiful girl, and the two fell in love and settled down, so this place was called Deer Houtou. Nowadays, this sculpture is the tallest on the island, which is why Sanya was named Deer City.

Sanya's attractions are all centered around the legend of love, and the business here at Luhuitou Park also celebrates love. Writing a postcard as a souvenir at the cute little Love Post Office is a popular activity.

Where there is love, there is of course a moon goddess, and it seems that his business is quite prosperous.

Inside this pavilion is a monument to mountain alliances, still related to love.

Surrounded by the sea on three sides, there are cityscapes everywhere.The sea view pavilion at the top of the hill is the best place to see the sea.

Exhibition on the culture of the Li people

After strolling down the hill, there is a Li culture exhibition at the exit, so you can learn a little bit about the Li culture. The Li is the main ethnic group in Hainan, and when I was riding in the car, the driver mentioned that these days are March 3, an important Li festival with three days of vacation, and there will also be celebrations.
