Keim Lake Tourism Introduction
Chimesee Lake is the largest lake in Bavaria, which is also known as the Bavarian Sea. The main itinerary here is to take a boat trip on the lake to visit the three islands on the lake, which are Men's Island, Women's Island, and Vanilla Island. Depending on the route of the boat, there are several harbors along the lake where you can take a boat, and usually the boat trip starts from Prin, which is a more convenient route with more choices.
Transportation to Keim Lake
On this day, we left Bechgasden and drove to Kiemsee, which is about an hour's drive. It was a beautiful morning and the hour passed quickly as we enjoyed the Bavarian countryside while driving.
If you come by train, you can change to a steam train at the station to reach the pier.
Keim Lake Cruise Itinerary
This is the boat we are about to board. We chose to go to Men's Island and then Women's Island.
Isle of Man
Lake Heronkimer New Palace
We could only take photos outside in the garden because we were not allowed to take photos inside. The garden is quite large and symmetrical with baroque design and many fine carvings.
The two fountains directly in front of the palace have the Goddess on one side and the God of War on the other. This is the God of War's side.
After walking down the stairs, there is a large fountain in the center.
After visiting the palace, we used the rest of the time to take a quick tour of the museums near the pier before heading back to the pier to board a boat towards Woman's Island.
Isle of Women
The boat ride from Men's Island to Women's Island takes about 15 minutes and it's a quick ride.
Women's Island is more secluded, probably because there are less tourists coming to the island. Similar to the Men's Island, there used to be a women's convent on the island, only women are allowed to enter. This onion head church is the convent, you can visit around but cannot enter inside.
Since we had to wait for a while for the next boat, we took a walk around Woman's Island, which has many small harbors, and the scenery was very relaxing at dusk. There are a few restaurants on the island, we found a small store and bought a specialty of the island, smoked fish sandwiches, and sat down on the shore to enjoy it.
Misty Forest
Finally, we took the boat back to Poulin, and from Poulin, we continued to drive to the next stop, Swansea Castle. In the evening, we passed by the Misty Forest, the fog was so thick that it really felt like a fairy tale misty forest.
