German Culinary Journey (Part 1): Dining in Berlin and Potsdam

Germany has a lot of food, this trip to Germany can be called a food tour, from Berlin to Munich, this series will start from Berlin to organize the food restaurants that I have eaten in various places.

Berlin Cuisine

German food classic Currywurst

The first day in Berlin, I spent most of my time sightseeing in the city, and when I got tired, I found a coffee shop to take a rest. I ate a currywurst, a famous Berlin sausage. currywursts are made differently by each shop, but the ones you can find on the roadside are almost all the same, and the best one is probably this one, a sausage with potatoes.

Curry 36

If you want to try a famous store, Curry 36 is one of the most famous stores you can find on the internet. It's more like a street stall with a lot of people queuing up, so after you've bought your sausage, you can go and eat it by yourself standing next to it. The two sausages and fries set is the most basic, and you can choose from a variety of sausages. This is the Currywurst ohne darm without the skin.

Currywurst mit Darm with skin is the same as the one I had at the café, but the famous one is still better. No matter what kind it is, Berliners just want a lot of ketchup.

Estrel Stube

Most of the time in Berlin was spent on meetings, and almost every day was spent eating curry and sausage and drinking beer in various bars, so I won't go into that. I took this opportunity to try all the common beer flavors of the big brands in Berlin.

The day the conference ended the food was better, it was in the accommodation of theEstrel BerlinI had a German meal at the Estrel Stube restaurant in the hostel. I ordered Havelländer Fischsuppe (Fish Soup) and Ofenfrische Schweinshaxe (German Pork Knuckle) with dark beer. I wasn't expecting much from this restaurant, but I was pleasantly surprised by how good both dishes were. The skin of the roasted pig's feet was very good (but difficult to cut), and the same style of pig's feet and fish soup rarely appeared on the menu for the rest of the trip.

Nante-Eck

Nante-Eck is also near the Mitte area, I found it with google map, and it has a 4 star rating. The location is on the way to Brandenburg Gate on Museum Island, which is quite convenient for sightseeing. I ordered the same pig's feet here, but in a different way. I personally prefer the roasted pig's feet, and the beer in Berlin is always good.

Potsdam Cuisine

Restaurant Dreimäderlhaus

While in Potsdam, I had lunch at Restaurant Dreimäderlhaus. The restaurant is located in Potsdam city center, tucked away on a quiet side street in the middle of downtown. It's a small, but very welcoming (compared to the average German) restaurant with a menu in English.
I tried the fish soup and pig's feet again for this meal. The fish soup here was a white soup base with good flavor and tasted lighter.

Pork feet are also very tasty, the flavor is relatively light, the pork feet of this stewed especially rotten, feel very much like braised pork feet, the side dishes are still pickled vegetables with potatoes.
