Dadaocheng Tour

Another vacation destination on this trip back to Taipei was Dadaocheng. The actual fact is, I've grown up in Taipei, but the number of times I've been to this old Taipei birthplace is just a handful of times, and I've only been to Dihua Street a couple of times before that. I'm not sure if you're going to be able to get the best out of this, but I'm sure you're going to be able to get the best out of this, and I'm sure you're going to be able to get the best out of it.

Because I wanted to see the night view of the pier, I came to Cosmos in the evening. In fact, I have often passed by the Yanping North Road area before, but I have never taken a closer look at it from the perspective of sightseeing. This area actually has the standard old Taipei knight-errant streetscape, the Dihua Street shopping district, the Yongle Market, these old places may have slightly withered in the past (really just a little bit, right?) and the old streets are not favored by the young people, but they have the human touch of the old Taipei.

One of my favorite things about traveling is the food, just like anywhere else. After living abroad for a long time, authentic Taiwanese night market snacks have become the key food. I picked a Japanese restaurant that looked like it was from the olden days, and the store was located on the lower level of the building without much decoration, and the adults in my family said that they wanted to eat traditional Japanese food. The first thing you need to do is to get a good deal on the price of the food you want to eat.
After I actually tasted the dishes, it was clear that they were all very tasty and delicious. The first dish was the oyster omelette.

A nostalgic dish of grilled swordfish.

I also ordered fried eel with noodles, which is one of the best tests of a chef's skills in Taipei.

After I had my fill, I started to move towards Dihua Street, and before I left the market, I couldn't help but take away some mochi.

The Yanping North Road is full of history of Taipei since the Japanese rule era, and there are many buildings around it that I have never really paid attention to before. For example, this Ren'an Hospital, located at the intersection of Yanping North Road and Liangzhou Street, is the oldest surviving hospital building in Taipei, and it still preserves the shape of its stone washed exterior walls from the Japanese rule era. Inside, traditional medical equipment is still preserved, and you can visit the hospital during the day.

The Xiahai Chenghuang Temple on Dihua Street is also a declared monument. It is only 46 pings in size, but it has been the center of faith in Dadaocheng for a long time, containing more than 600 statues of gods and goddesses. It is also said to be the most spiritual moonlight temple in Taiwan.

The most interesting thing about Dadaocheng is its retro feel. There was an open-air old movie playing next to the Xiahai City God Temple (look at how young Takeshi Kaneshiro and Lin Chih-Ying are on the screen), and the surrounding residents seemed to be very interested in this kind of retro activity, with both men and women, young and old, watching on.

Dadaocheng Wharf is located near the Dihua Street shopping area, just a short walk away. When I arrived, there was a weekend event going on here, so there were more people than usual.

The night view by the pier is quite beautiful. Walk to the pier and leave the crowds for a while to enjoy the brilliant lights of the Danshui shore at night.
