What to Eat in Tokyo: 14 Recommended Tokyo Restaurants and Snacks

Tokyo | Shinjuku

Shinjuku Dining | Barbecue | Torigin

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$$$

Although there are many places to eat in Tokyo, this restaurant is one of the most impressive in the city. The restaurant is famous for its Japanese chicken skewers, so as soon as we walked in, we ordered a bottle of sake and a bunch of skewers with chicken broth, and every dish was super delicious. The store is small and we entered just before closing time, so luckily there weren't too many customers.

Shinjuku Dining | Simple Dining | Pork Cutlet

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$$$

Wakamoan Pork Cutlet is located in the restaurant area above the Isetan Department Store in Shinjuku. The price is a little higher, but it's worth it. I ordered one set of pork and one set of kurobuta pork loin. Overall, the quality of the meat and the small dishes were very satisfactory.

Shinjuku Dining | Snacks | Shinjuku Tsukiji Silver Octopus Grill

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$

Ginko-yaki has branches all over the world, and this time I had it at the Kabukicho branch in Shinjuku. The flavor was not bad, but I wasn't particularly impressed.

Shinjuku Food | Ramen | Ichiran Ramen Shinjuku Store

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$

Ichiran Ramen has been a favorite for a long time, and the line in front of the Shinjuku store was crazy until midnight. In the end, we came here during breakfast time to avoid the crowds. The classic ramen set tastes good, but if you have to queue for two hours, it takes too long.

Shinjuku Dining | Seafood | Takamaru Seafood Restaurant

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$

Takamaru Seafood Restaurant is an affordable seafood restaurant that I found on the side of Shinjuku one day, and it has a lot of local customers. It's basically a seafood izakaya, and the seafood is fresh and not too expensive for Tokyo.

Shinjuku Gourmet | Famous Restaurants | Zanpakuto Tempura

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$$$$

ShinjukuOutline 8This is a famous tempura restaurant that has been in business since 1924. We visited the main branch of the restaurant, and it was very crowded during dinner time, so we waited for about 20 minutes even though we were late. I ordered a tempura meal recommended by the chef. The traditional tempura restaurant is aesthetically pleasing, and the chef carefully selects the seasonal ingredients for each dish. The food was served quickly and each dish was very tasty.

Shinjuku Food | Barbecue | Tsuchigasato Yakiniku

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$$$

When you're in Tokyo, you can't miss Wagyu beef yakiniku. Toguri is a must-try yakiniku restaurant that specializes in black Wagyu Yamagata beef. When I came here, I had already eaten too much on the way, so I chose to order a single order because I wanted to eat a better quality meat. I ordered the Yamagata Beef Sheng, which allows you to eat various parts of the cow. The meat with a lot of oil is the best, and it's beautifully grilled. The special beef tongue is also excellent. Recommended for prime or extra prime meat.

Shinjuku | Desserts | Harbs

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$

Harbs is a famous dessert store, and this time I ate at the Luminee Est department store in Shinjuku. I ordered a fruit cake and a fruit lasagna because many of the cakes were sold out due to the good business. The cakes were very delicate, but I don't know if it was because I was already full, but the overall flavor was not very impressive.

Tokyo Food | Asakusa

Asakusa Gourmet | Desserts | Naval

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $

Located on Omotesando Road in Asakusa Temple, Funakazu is a long-established Japanese dim sum restaurant that has been in business since 1902 and now has several branches. The most famous is the sweet potato yokan. You can buy it on its own. The most popular dessert is Funazuki Causewayaki, which is a sweet potato yokan wrapped in Causewayaki, and is served with matcha tea to relieve greasiness, making even those who don't like Japanese wakame eat more.

Asakusa | Desserts | Kimura Ka Ningyo-yaki

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $

Kimura Ka Ningyo-yaki is also a famous restaurant in Asakusa, and you can't miss it at the entrance of Asakusa Temple. This restaurant is the originator of the okonomiyaki. There are four types of ningyo-yaki: Gojita, Rai, Tatemono, and Dove, and they all have the same flavor of red bean paste. It's a great souvenir.

Tokyo Food | Akihabara

Dining in Akihabara | Noodle House Musashi-Iwatobi

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$

I ordered two kinds of noodles from Musashi-Iwahoo, a famous noodle store about three minutes away from the Electric Street exit. The usual ramen specialty, BBQ pork with bacon, is cured and smoked in a special sauce and then grilled on an iron plate just before serving. The other type of noodle is dipped in a salt-flavored broth, which is a popular choice in the summer.

Tokyo Gourmet 35

Akihabara Dining | Snacks | Kikukawa Eel Rice

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$

This eel rice restaurant is a century-old restaurant that delivers eels directly from the source. To ensure that all parts of the eel receive enough heat, the eel is grilled with piano wire instead of bamboo sticks, which is very special.

Tokyo Food | Tsukiji Market

Tukiji Gourmet | Seafood | Tiger Balm

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$$$

We came to Tsukiji with the intention of going on a sushi binge, and originally we were going to go straight to the popular online restaurant Sushi Dai, but when we got to Tsukiji, we were so hungry that we came to Tiger Cane first. The specialty of the restaurant is the three course meal of seafood from Genjo. I ordered a seafood rice bowl and a tuna rice bowl first because I was afraid of getting too full. Both were delicious. On the wall, there is a picture of each part of the sashimi. I had heard that the belly of bluefin tuna is the best part of the tuna, so I followed the introduction of the menu and ordered some. The so-called "big toro" part of the belly is the most delicious (and expensive) part of the tuna.

Tsukiji Gourmet | Sushi | Yamato Sushi

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$$$$

The first time we ate sushi in Tsukiji was at a famous restaurant.Yamato SushiThere were a lot of people waiting in line. There were a lot of people lining up and we were lucky to get in before the restaurant closed at 1:30pm, so we were one of the last few to get in. We were lucky enough to be one of the last few groups to enter before the restaurant closed at 1:30pm. The tuna at the previous restaurant was so amazing that we ordered a regular set menu and another one for the big belly only. We ordered the recommended set menu, but we wanted the tuna appetizer only, so we had to fight with the chef for a while, but we got what we wanted in the end. Overall, Yamato lived up to its reputation as a gourmet restaurant and we left satisfied. Personally, I think Yamato is famous for a reason, and even though I was half full, this meal was even better. I'm not going to tell you how delicious it was, just look at the pictures!
