Göteborg Half Day Tour: The Origin
Goteburg, Sweden's second largest city after Stockholm, is located on the west coast of Sweden and is the largest port in the Scandinavian region.
This is the second time I came to Göteborg for business. The hotel we stayed at was Gothia tower, which is very close to the city center and opposite to Liseberg amusement park, the biggest amusement park in Sweden, and we could enjoy the view of Göteborg city from the hotel room.
Walking Route
I was able to book a flight that arrived a day early, so I spent half a day on the weekend sightseeing in the city. Below is the walking route of the day. In fact, the public transportation in Gothenburg is very convenient, and you can take a bus to visit the city, but in order to resist the jet lag, I chose to walk this day to get more sunshine.
Liseberg Amusement Park
Central Avenue
A ten-minute walk from the hotel, you will see the Central Street. At this end of the street, the sculpture of Poseidon is the landmark of Göteborg. Behind it is the famous Göteborg Museum of Art in Scandinavia, and next to it is the Göteborg Concert Hall. This is often the location of various major events, this weekend was held gay pride, surrounded by the water, this photo was taken just before leaving.
Göteborg Museum
The row of buildings at this end of the canal after the bridge was built by the East India Company in the 18th century, and is now the Goteborg Museum. It was here that the East India Company conducted its trade with Asia.
Göteborg Cathedral
In the center of the old town stands the Göteborg Cathedral. It was first built in 1633, and the church you see today was rebuilt for the third time in 1815.
Saluhallen market
Saluhallen Traditional Market is a landmark with a history of more than 100 years. Inside, there are various stalls selling fresh food and cooked food, and it is a good place to buy snacks when you are hungry.
Maritiman Maritime Museum
When you walk to the north side of the harbor, there are many boats of different colors on the street. This is where the Maritiman Museum is located. The Maritiman Museum does not have any buildings, but consists of 20 ships connected together on the Jota River, and is said to be the largest watercraft museum in the world. There are navy ships, transport frigates and more, so if you have two hours to spare and are interested in boats, you can pay 125 kroner for a visit to each one.
Since I only had half a day, I just walked around the pier. This street is very cozy.
Slottskogen Castle Park
After seeing the harbor, we walked all the way to the west, all the way to the castle park (Slottsskogen). This is the largest and oldest park in Göteborg, with a large lawn and sports trails, where people love to do outdoor activities, picnics and so on.
Skanson Kronan
On the way back to the Haga area, we passed by Skanson Kronan, a 17th century fortress with a couple of old batteries on the top of the hill. From here, a high point in the center of the city, you can have a good view of the street you just passed.
