Kyoto Gourmet | Restaurants | Kyoto Shunsho Tofu

  • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Price: $$$$

Shunsho Tofu Kyoto Shimizu As the name suggests, this restaurant specializes in tofu dishes, ranging in price from 3,000 to 8,000, making it a healthy and authentic Kyoto treat. Located just outside the Nanzenji Temple, the restaurant itself is a former schoolhouse and is full of Japanese flavor. We arrived late and there weren't many customers, so sitting by the window was especially quiet. We ordered two kinds of tofu dishes. The pots here are all unseasoned, and the flavor of the tofu itself is what we ate. The first one is the tofu skin pot, where you put the skin of the tofu into the pot and cook it, then pull out the skin and dip it into the sauce. The side dishes that come with the set are all different kinds of tofu. The other set is simply boiled tofu with a series of side dishes.

There are several famous matcha stores on Shijo-dori, but I like to walk from Yasaka Shrine and pass by Gion Tea House Tururi first. The first place I like to pass on my way from Yasaka Shrine is the Gion tea house, Toruri. You can enjoy the Toruri sundaes and matcha scallops as takeaway.

Kamogawa restaurants are a little more expensive, but this one is quite good, but there are not many choices, we just ordered a small bottle of sake and a few simple skewers, and the grilled chicken skin was the best of them all.

Famous store Lao Matsu Wako. A must-try at this store is his signature Natsumikan Candy, which is made from the dried rind of a Japanese summer honey bridge with sugar and citrus juice added to the inside, and is limited to the summer season.

The seats in the store are deliberately spread out to create a relaxing atmosphere, and it's a great way to spend the afternoon chatting and enjoying Japanese tea with fruit.

You can't miss the brown sugar fern cake, which is chilled. The way to eat them is to roll them in soybean flour and then dip them in brown sugar.
